Gizem earned her PhD under the tutelage of Eileen White at Rutgers. She then did a postdoctoral stint with Alec Kimmelman at Dana Farber (now NYU).

While in the Sammons Lab, Gizem worked on understanding lineage-specific expression of p53 target genes using modern genomic and classical genetic approaches.

She is now a Staff Scientist at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA.
